We have been significantly involved in Liberia for over 15 years, travelling there every year. Liberia is still recovering from a devastating 8 year civil war which killed 300,000. Tragically the war left its victims, mostly widows and orphans, in a place of poverty, hopelessness and chaos. The social, political and economic fabric of Ganta is now gradually being rewoven. We have built a center that looks after malnourished children, bringing children from near death back to a healthy life.
We also have Hope Academy that educates over 400 students every year. We have put in a satellite dish to bring a greater perspective to our students.
Our goal is to help make “Todays Orphans, Tomorrow’s Leaders.”
Stepping Stones - Young Families
We meet young mothers, and mothers-to-be when they are at their most vulnerable, and often have no one where else to turn. Young Families exists to welcome pregnant and parenting youth, ages 12 to 24 into a caring and safe environment and to provide the support, hope and love they need. From professional counsellors, compassionate ‘ears’ to talk to, babysitters, life-skills and mentoring, Young Families is dedicated to seeing these young women brought to a place of health and wellness as they begin this new journey of Motherhood. We are passionate about seeing these young moms grow to be the best parents, wives, and friends they can be.
Jacob’s Well is a faith based non-profit located in the Downtown Eastside of Vancouver. We seek mutually transformative friendship with those on the margins of society and equip others to do the same in their own context. We are an ecumenical Christian community, that is, we come from many different denominations and churches. We share the basics of the Christian faith, as defined in the Apostles’ Creed, and we find unity around our commitment to Christ and to loving the marginalized people He loves. We strive to keep Christ at the centre of all we do. We believe our common purpose as followers of Christ is to announce the good news (Gospel) of the Kingdom of God, a Kingdom of justice and shalom, where nothing is missing or broken, where all things are reconciled and restored. We do this in word and action, longing and working for right relationships between God, ourselves, our fellow humans, and creation.
